Traditional Taoist Charms Worn For Luck, Serenity and Power

Yinyang Bagua Symbol

I first discovered Chinese amulets for sale outside temples in Asia many years ago. Traditional Taoist hufu are very popular, and are often worn every day by Chinese people for good luck, good fortune and general peace of mind.

You will see these charms on Chinese martial artists, feng shui masters, business people, and many others. Many doting Chinese grandmothers also tie these on their grandchildren, or hang them over babies' cribs (out of baby's reach, of course!).

Upon my return to the US, I was overwhelmed by Western interest in these pendants and Chinese art, t'ai-chi, feng shui, I-Ching, kung-fu, philosophy and metaphysics. I knew I had to find more.

On the front:
The words across the top mean, roughly, "Peace and Harmony, the Two Golden Words".

In the center, a yin-yang symbol surrounded by the bagua (pa-gua, or eight trigrams) of the Yijing (I-Ching).

On the back:
The words across the top mean, roughly, "Blessings and Honor, the Three Scenes of Spring".

The word "Dao" ("Tao", "the Way" ) is circled in the center, surrounded by an incantation invoking the power of nature.

Red cord:
Hand-tied red string focuses good fortune, happiness and power. The string hangs 16 inches on each side (32 inches total).

These amulets are authentic, new and hand-carried straight from the source. The metal is bronze color and intentionally antiqued. Chinese people today prefer charms made of this modern non-tarnishing alloy.
